PROCESS
The plan for this project underwent major changes during the study phase. Although the clients were clear on the fundamentals, successive initial discussions opened the door to a different approach for the future of the proposal. With the idea of entering the world of rural tourism, it was decided to opt for a residential complex where the owners could live in comfort and privacy, and receive their guests in a tasteful manner. A range of facilities were proposed to support the venture, with particular attention paid to the horse arena, which was our clients’ real dream.
The original state of the property showed clear signs of abandonment, practically in a state of ruin. The main structures of the original units remained in good condition, but the floors and roofs needed to be rebuilt. In terms of challenges, the most important thing was to find an overall solution, to find a general logic of action that would suit each element of the project and ultimately bring architectural uniformity to the proposal.
In order to meet this objective, some transversal working rules were defined. The decision to keep the existing stone walls where possible was taken, integrating them into the proposal as characterising elements of the space. On the lower level of the complex, two new units were created, slightly raised off the ground and finished in black steel, contrasting with the strong texture of the stone. The horse arena and all the spaces associated with this equipment were placed on the upper level. With its wooden structure and white drywall finish, it stands out from the rest without disturbing the feeling of homogeneity. The end result is an amazing estate, which guarantees a fulfilling life for its owners and allows them to welcome guests without it having an impact on their privacy. An estate that offers a different kind of tourism, linked to nature and well-being.
