PROCESS
The clients’ intention was to develop a two-story house, as well as a side porch and a storage room at the back of the plot. This desire also aimed for the interior of the 2-bedroom dwelling to have the social spaces on the ground floor, as well as the more intimate ones on the upper floor. Consequently, a requirement was added that the living room to occupy as much lengh as possible, seeking to take advantage of the sunlight coming from the South while articulating with the outdoor leisure and socializing spaces located at the rear of the building.
Thus, following the premises outlined by the clients, the project focused on a two-floor organization that sought advantage to maximize both usable area for each space, taking into consideration the internal organization of the building, and a predisposition of the spaces attentive to the solar orientation regarding a greater thermal and confort benefits resulting in good solar and energy utilization. The separation of the social part of the house from the intimate part between its two floors also ensured greater comfort and privacy in the dwelling, aspects valued by the clients.
Regarding the distribution of the interior spaces, once entering the house, there´s a clear distinction between the social and private spaces of the house on each floor, emphasized by the very materiality of the entrance hall and the interior staircase that distributes between floors.
Formally, the building maintains its aspects with the solar orientation and with the surrounding built environment, respecting the alignment in reference to the dominant route and function associated with the area, while asserting its contemporary character distinct from other constructions through the materials and colors chosen. However, it harmoniously integrates into the landscape without contrasting too sharply with it, due to the similar texture of the ETICS system compared to neighboring buildings that have plaster finishes, and also considering the attention given to the building’s placement and alignments, always keeping in mind the urbanistic suitability of the proposal in harmony with the future well-being of the inhabitants
